How Vilamoura Is Becoming a Leading Equestrian Destination for Riders, Trainers, and Competition Teams Worldwide

The renewed Vilamoura Equestrian Centre marks a big shift in the Algarve’s equestrian scene. With upgraded facilities and growing international attention, the region is quickly becoming a key destination for riders, trainers and competition teams from around the world. And with that rise comes a higher demand for premium-quality horse feed and forage.

Over the last years, quality has become a major priority in the global equestrian world and Portugal has followed that trend faster than many expected.

Prime Hay: Raising the Bar for Forage in Portugal and Spain

When Prime Hay arrived in the Algarve 2.5 years ago, the market lacked consistent, high-grade hay that matched international performance standards. That changed quickly.
Prime Hay grew from a small start-up into one of the leading hay suppliers in Portugal and Spain, trusted by professionals who expect reliability and nutritional consistency.

Top riders, including Alejandro Ascencio and many more, have recognised the difference and rely on Prime Hay for their sport horses .

The revamped Vilamoura Equestrian Centre invites a wide spectrum of equestrian-professionals under one roof. From international show-jumping teams and elite trainers, to ambitious young riders and their owners, the venue offers world-class facilities: three large sand arenas (each over 6,500 m²), a vast 14,000 m² grass arena, Europe’s largest covered free-training arena (6,000 m²+), over 1,000 fixed stables, undulate warm-up grounds, a state-of-the-art veterinary clinic and premium hospitality zones for sponsors and VIP-guests.

Whether you’re preparing for a high-level CSI4* or CSI5* event, winter-training a team of sport horses in the Algarve, or simply seeking a top‐tier seasonal base for your stable, this centre becomes the hub where riders, coaches, owners and service-providers converge  and where logistics, comfort and top performance meet.

One product from Prime Hay consistently rises above the rest: Meadow Hay – Extra Pressed.
Because it’s double compressed, it’s easier to store, effortless to transport, and perfect to take along to competitions thanks to its compact size. Despite its dense form, it remains rich in essential nutrients, beautifully green, clean and consistent.

It’s genuinely a standout product — visually stunning, nutritionally reliable, and absolutely loved by horses. No surprise it’s our bestseller.

Riders Coming to Vilamoura Can Expect the Best

With the new developments at Vilamoura Equestrian Centre, the region is attracting more international riders than ever. And thanks to Prime Hay, they can now rely on world-standard forage right here in the Algarve — without compromise.

Premium horses deserve premium forage.
